A fond farewell!

Sorry on my absentee status... the family and I were taking a well deserved vacation in the Southern Caribbean. =)

Tonight marked the transition of me stepping down from my position with the circle and moving my "replacement" into that spot. I think the ritual went well... Essentially, everyone showed up and was brought in half way through a ritual already in progress. My replacement and I began our work at 6:30, which consisted of setting up, talking over everything, casting the circle, and spending some quality time in meditation with the elements and the Divine. The meditation was much needed and provided some great insight and triumph, as well as strength and guidance to both of us... not to mention one hell of an endorsement by Gaia and Cernunnos for Bill! Once everyone was brought in, I took about 10 minutes to thank everyone for coming even though they had no idea what was going on, and then to explain that my time with the circle had come to an end and that it was now Bill's turn to take on the leadership role and help the circle and its members continue to thrive and grow. After I finished speaking, Bill said his few words and then he made his oath to me, as well as the circle that he would do right by them, etc. When all was said and done, I had him cut me out of the circle, and after I crossed the threshold, I bowed to everyone, told them I loved them, then I turned around and left without looking back. Oddly, it was easy to not look back. I came home and sent out a quick email to everyone, since not all of our members were able to be there tonight, and now I'm sitting here typing this.

I suppose I will go make some nice pumpkin spice tea and go treat myself to some nice book time.

Love and blessings to you all!

"I'm just blessing the candles, Mommy."

On Saturday afternoon, after spending the morning at Goddess Fest and looking through the closing Borders store at our mall, my two friends Trisha and Arrin, my daughter, and I went to the Crones Cupboard- one of our local occult stores. Typically, I buy my chime candles there, so my wee one is use to going to the section to "help" me pick out my candles. As it happened, I wasn't in the market for anything on Saturday, and was just browsing while my friends took care of some business of their own. I walked into the candle area and was checking out a Goddess Brigit candle that they have there, when Jae came up and started man handling all the votive's on the bottom shelf. I looked at her and told her we had to leave them there, as we didn't need to buy any candles today. Then I turned around a looked over a few other items around that area. When I turned around to check on Jae, she was standing next to the candles with a votive candle cupped in her hand and was talking to it. I watched her put it down and pick up a brown one and start the process over again. I couldn't make out everything she was saying, but I was picking up phrases like "mother goddess" and "move the Earth". I asked her what she was doing, and to my astonishment, as well as that of my friends, she looked at me and said, "I'm just blessing the candles, Mommy". She then proceeded to bless one candle of every remaining color before she was ready to leave that section of the store. Even thinking about it now, several days later, I'm amazed at the ability and intuition of my almost 3 year old little girl. She is a force to reckon with, and whoever ends up with those candles are in for one hell of a magical ride!

Why you gotta be pissing in my cheerios?

It's just been one of those damn days. Really, there are a couple people walking around with some severely singed ass hairs that I doubt will be growing back any time soon. If there is one thing that I can't stand, it is people that decide that, if you don't live like they do, or make the same sacrifices as they, that you are a lesser human being that deserves to be belittled and preached out about the need to grow up and be "responsible". To that I say, guess what- no one here is interested in your apparent saint like life.... go tend to your precious volunteer work.

Sorry... I just needed to vent and get that off my chest.

In other news, my yard is going to be sailing in a couple weekends... well, not really, but I'm hoping that the items I put out on it will be sailing away and leaving behind some cash. =) We've decided to have a yard sale the first weekend in August, just to clear out what we have that we know we're planning on getting rid of, and have another one next year after Stephen gets home. It's been forever since I've done a yard sale.. in fact, I can remember the last one.. I was still in high school and mom and I did a sale... M was there with her two kids and I got a wicked sunburn on my scalp because I had the pig tail braids going on and didn't think to put sunscreen on that little strip of delicate skin. Lesson learned- I will NEVER make that mistake again!!

It's another late night tonight, as I'm finding myself wide awake for some unknown reason. So, I'm sitting downstairs typing and watching a show on Investigation Discovery about the top 10 deadliest women. Great late night viewing, I know. =) The number two killer is of extreme interest to me... the kind that give pagans a bad name... 14 year old Catholic raised girl that goes goth and starts dating a "300 year old werewolf" and does a ritual and kills her parents and brother. *sigh* Gotta have one in every crowd I suppose... doesn't make it suck any less.

Tomorrow is Goddess Fest.. our local pagan gathering in we have here. Planning on being up in Boise by 10 so that I'm in time for the opening walk of the goddess. Stephen, unfortunately, has a paper to write, so Jae and I will be heading up to give him a quiet house to work in. I'm looking forward to it- I always have fun there and run into people that I haven't seen in ages. I suppose I should try to go to bed... again... so I'm not out of energy come tomorrow morning. Nighty nite everyone. Goddess Bless!

A Newly Formed Decision

As seems to be the case as of late, I have been absent for a decent length of time. I'm really hoping that, when I finish my final class with school this month, that my "free time" for writing will increase and my stress level will decrease! Now that I'm down to one class though, I'm at least finding my days slightly more manageable then they have been in the past year.

Anyway.. I'm not here to go on about school. Honestly I'd rather not think about it constantly (even though I normally do).

So I have decided, finally decided, that is time for me to step down from my circle. There is finally someone there who is willing and able to take the circle over. I have not confided any of this in the rest of the circle, as I don't want to deal with the - "we don't want to loose you nonsense." The transition will take place around Samhain, as something in my brain is telling me that that is the appropriate time for this. I had an interesting chat with Isis, in regarded to my path and, oddly enough, my name. In the years that have passed since we did the magical name ritual, I have come to realize that who I am is no longer who I was and the name I was given is no longer my own. I was asking Isis about it, when I would know what my name was to become, as a priestess to multiple goddess, and where to go with these new changes. She, in her eloquent way, told me that I would not discover my new name until I freed myself from the role that was no longer mine to have and doing nothing more than holding me back from where I am meant to be. So, yeah, that is where I am at now. In addition to that, I have found myself as a part of a circle in Boise, one was started by a wonderful old crone who left another group after seeing what a load of crapola they were trying to pass off as a goddess path. The two of us and two other women are the whole group, and it is so wonderful and empowering to work with these ladies who are true to themselves and their craft instead of being bogged down by those who are content to be stagnant in their spirituality and more concerned about who has the better story, the funnier joke, or whatever. We typically meet twice a month, once for coffee, talk, and a "business meeting" and again at the end of the month for a goddess ritual. Last month we had a ritual with the goddess Juno, and next month we will be working with the goddess Oya. It's so wonderful and I feel so at home there, something I haven't felt at the base circle in a very long time. I've watched myself become more recluse with each passing month, and I don't like that... It shouldn't be that way, and wouldn't be if I thought circle was of any spiritual benefit anymore. I can say I'm looking forward to Samhain. And to answer a question I'm sure you've wondered at, no, I will not be going back to the circle for any reason. Should the new leader need advise or counsel, that is one thing, but I Will not go back t be a member to the circle after spending the past two years running it, loving it, and hating it.

Now, I'm not trying to bash the circle here, just that it is simply no longer my place. It happens. It will be hard, to be sure, but it is also necessary.

Just thought I would share this!

Brightest Blessings to you all!

Hello Nyx... We meet again!

So, in one of my recent blogs I talked about needing a representation of Nyx on my altar, and that a friend of mine who is currently in Greece will be working on obtaining a statue of her for me. I swear to you, ever since I acknowledged that both in my head, heart, and to anyone who reads this blog, she has been EVERYWHERE. I mean, HOLY CRAP! Seriously, until it all clicked into place in my head, I was starting to think that I was loosing what little is left of my marbles (mainly dust now... I have to be careful to keep a stray wind from blowing it all away....). Then, the other night as I was standing in the shower (yup, that's a major spiritually active time for me, as I don't have a million other things to distract me!) I caught a glimpse of a "human figure" out of the corner of my eye. Now, we have sliding doors on our bathtub/shower and they tend to play tricks on the eye because of the pattern on them, but this was as distinct as if the hubby had been standing in the bathroom and I was seeing him through the glass door. I actually jumped because of the startling factor, then when I looked again, the figure was slowly dispersing into the steam around me. Thing is, the "figure" was made of black, just like the black of night. Now, I know most people associate black with evil, and I can't say that that is always wrong because a dark cloud can be ominous, however, there was nothing evil about this. In fact, it was just the opposite. A loving check up, if you will. It was just a strange experience. I can't say that I'm use to goddesses just popping in to say hi. Normally I talk/ visit with them in dreams and meditations, but this was just a normal night time shower...

Anywho. I just thought it was interesting and that I would share it with you!

Some Pictures That Made Me Happy

Hello all!
I was looking for some symbols for a friend of mine last night and stumbled across a couple pictures that I really liked. So, I figured I would pass them along for you!

I don't have anyone to credit these too, so if you by chance know of their original origins, please let me know so I can give proper kudos too.

A thought on the God and Goddess...

During the weekdays, I wake up to fun little notes from "The Universe" (go to this site for more info- http://www.tut.com/ ).

I got this one the other day, and it's one of those things that makes you stop, think, then smile when you realize the truth behind it.

So, enjoy, and find the divine in your life!

If speaking to a spiritual novice during the darker days of human evolution, Emma, one might explain God, metaphorically, as if "He" were angry, testing, and judgmental.

To someone a bit more savvy, during easier times, one might explain God, metaphorically, as if "She" were always loving, nurturing, and forever conspiring on our behalf.

And to someone on the verge of a total breakthrough, during the latter days of human evolution, one might explain God by asking them to turn up the music, take off their shoes, walk in the grass, unleash the dogs, free the canary, catch a breeze, ride a wave, dance every day, get up early, take a nap, stay out late, eat chocolate, feel the love, give stuff away, earn it back, give some more, and laugh.... Really.

Jaelynn's Goddess Candle

Last night, as I was tucking my daughter in and turning out the lights, she started talking about the goddess keeping her safe and warm. This is a normal conversation we have every night at bed time, and typically she rambles on in half "adult" language and half mutterings that I don't understand. Last night though, as she was talking, she looking at me and plainly said, "I want a goddess candle". I figured, ok, that's understandable, as we have several goddess candles throughout he house. So, I told her we could make one after school and nap time tomorrow (which is today). However, he next statement totally and completely caught me off guard. She said, "Candle for Gaia". Please insert my jaw dropping silence here. While we honor every goddess in our home, typically when we say our night time prayers or talk about the goddess we either call her "goddess", "mother", or we use the names of Isis, Kuan Yin, and Ostara. Gaia is not one that, in conscious memory, I can recall telling her. So, I told her that yes, Gaia would keep her safe and warm while she slept, then I dropped it and it went downstairs so she could go to sleep. This afternoon comes and I ask Jae what color she wants her candle. Without hesitation she says, "WHITE!" Totally doable. Then I ask if she wants any other colors... next, "PURPLE!" Fantastic! Before we get started, the kiddo says she has to go pee-pee, so we go and sit on the potty... While she's sitting there, she suddenly looks at me and says, "Goddess candle white, purple AND green!" Well, alrighty then. When she was done, she got to pick her own jar for the candle, as well as the order of the colors. Here is our photo documentation.. =)
Getting ready....
First Layer, White, is in!
Helping mommy stir the wax...

Pouring the Purple layer!
Smelling her candle...
Pouring the Green layer!
And the Finished (almost- minus the wick) Gaia candle!!

Weekly Circle- Ethics

This morning was our weekly circle get-together, and the topic of the day was Ethics. We went through the Wiccan Rede and the Witches Creed, discussing the main focus of both "An harm ye none, do what ye will". Being a military veteran with a husband who is still active duty, and catering a circle for individuals who are military affiliated, we are put into an interesting place on our path where that one golden rule is sometimes called into question. Let's face it, the military is here to fight and defend. Period. So, when it comes to harming none, what do you do when you're sent to war and it's either kill someone or be killed (which still qualifies as "harm" due to the fact that harming yourself is still harming someone)? Well, of course my thought is, you kill. Let me look at some Native American practices to put this into perspective. In older days, it was practice to not kill unless you intended to use. Basically, if you kill the buffalo, you use EVERYTHING for something- waste not want not. This was very important. The earth and her children, which includes people, were sacred and the children all equal, regardless if the child is a human or a wolf. But, when someone comes in and threatens you and your tribe, you kill to protect... you protect out of honor, but also it is because this is what the Chief has commanded shall be so. It is the same concept in the military. We have opted to loose some of our freedom in order to protect the freedom of others. While we may not always agree with what we have been ordered to do, it is still an order that must be followed for the livelihood of our tribe.  (Now, this brought in a whole conversation on responsibility and things like that, but I don't know if I have the ability to type that out in an understandable means right now). In my mind, it comes down to honor and respect. Whether or not you're military or not, vegan or meat eater, you need to ask yourself the question "Do I honor and respect that which I kill?" Yes, a military member may be  ordered to kill someone, but that does not mean it must be done with out respect. Even something as simple as a small prayer for the "enemies" that have fallen. Because, remember, we are still of all the same essence in the end. In the same regard, when it comes to eating, do you pay respect to the plant or meat that you are eating? True, not all foods are harvested/slaughtered in the kindest ways, and that is incredibly unfortunate. Yet, as I do not have the means to maintain my own farm and oversee these things, I must rely on what I can obtain through the supermarket. So, when these things come into my house, I always make sure to bless them and thank them for their sacrifice so that my family and I might be sustained. Just food for thought.

Along with this rule, we also talked about the ideology of "In perfect love and perfect trust". Now, bear in mind that the circle is an open circle. Yes, I lead it, and yes, people do call upon me as their High Priestess, but this is not a coven that I have initiated people into and we are all on separate sacred paths with the conscious decision to meet and learn from each other. So, how do you perform magic with someone new to the group that you know little to nothing about? Well, let me tell you what, when I asked that question it sure was sure greeted by one of those momentary silences were you can hear the crickets chirping. So, I did what I do best, and started giving off ideas. =) We've had a lot of new people fluctuate into the group, and being a very spiritual person that takes a lot of pride in my ritual and magic, it is extremely important for me to be able to cast a circle and drop all of my shields to become a true vessel for the goddess and her work, without worry about what Mr. New Guy's energy is doing to me and the circle. So, in effort to combat this, we've decided to start doing trust building exercises. And no, not the kind were people stand on chairs and fall back into the waiting arms of the group (though that has the potential to be absolutely hilarious)... instead, we're going to start with small things- getting use to each others energy signature. It's still a work in progress, but in my mind I see it starting with simple things like energy balls and aura readings, then moving into chakra work where we all work on each other instead of one or two of us working on everyone, and eventually working our way into being able to drop our shields around each other. I know it won't happen over night, but I feel great knowing that we have a "plan of attack" to go with so we can all maximize our potential with each other. Oh, and that brings me to the next topic... MINDSET!

I talked with the group about my concerns with mindset during ritual (see my very  first post for more info), and we discussed various options and how some people felt about ritual and making the most of it. We have decided on what has been dubbed the "5 minute warning bell". Basically, five minutes before we start a ritual or other magical event, I will let everyone know that they have 5 minutes. This way, people can go meditate or step out side to be with an element or do whatever it is that they need to do before we start our ritual so that they can enter it with the right mindset to make it the most beneficial not only for themselves, but for those around them. I think it's a pretty good comprise for a group of individuals that like meeting based off similar belief systems.

All in all, it was a highly productive day chalked full of information and discussions- just the way I like it. =) Now, I must be off to prepare for a 3 year old's birthday party! (Children and sugar and a bouncy castle, OH MY!).

Brightest Blessings to all!

A Prayer to Isis: (from the book Isis Magic by M. Isidora Forrest)

I hail you and praise you
Glorious Goddess
At the end of this day which you granted me.
May my actions within its hours
Be judged to be justified.
And may my words within its hours
Be found to be true.
Drain from me all ill intent and action.
I offer to you all energy I have locked
In unworthy action or reaction.
I ask your welcome now in this temple.
Accept me this night for rest,
For study, and for worship.
Grant me dreams of meaning
And the memory to recall them.
Hail to you Goddess of the starry pathways.
Hail to you Goddess of the deep black.
Hail to you Goddess of the shinning sun at midnight.
May I partake in your glory forever.
